Welcome! to Averegan Alpacas. (named after my daughters Avery and Regan, pronounced Aver-egan) I am Donna Simmonds and I am currently owned by 22 beautiful creatures called Alpacas. We are fortunate enough to live in Peterborough Ontario in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes. Was I always enamored and addicted to Alpacas, I would have to say no, It was the classic love at first sight when it comes to them and the farming lifestyle.
I have always been an animal lover and in 2003 my husband Joel and I bought a 46 acre hobby farm to open pet boarding business.
We simply looked at all that land for the first 2 years and then decided we needed something to put on it but what? We had no experience with livestock. This idea brewed in the back of my mind until the day I walked into and Alpaca store, they had beautiful products and pictures of these enchanting creatures. I WAS HOOKED..........We did alot of research and was invited out to a couple farms and the rest is history.
Today we are alpacas farmers with a goal. That goal is to produce offspring that are healthy, with soft dense fleece, and nose to toes coverage. We are looking for sires that mantain their lower micron counts as they age. We are getting great crimp styles with incredible handle, and feel confident that we are moving our breeding program towards these goals. We always provide the best feed and grain we can get and healthy stress free animals are always our number one priority.
